PRESSURE
POINT CONTROL TACTICS FOR THE MARTIAL ARTS
"Science not Secrets"
BACKGROUND
OF OUR PROGRAM
The history of using pressure points or nerve centers is nothing
new to the martial arts. It appears that almost all martial arts
have basically the same striking points. Many know of pressure points
in the body that when touched, penetrated or struck, create some
form of pain or dysfunctional response
Research
not Mythology
The martial arts, as a whole have not done the research as to why
things work the way they do. According to Martial Arts literature,
the first traces of researching the human anatomy for combative
purposes began around 500-550 A.D.
Martial
Arts Science
According to legends, a Buddhist priest named Dharma killed over
500 slaves with needles in an attempt to locate vital points for
strikes. Although by today’s morals, this practice would be
considered barbaric, Dharama is considered to be the first martial
art scientist. Arriving at Shaolin temples, he developed the basic
martial art systems to which many of today’s martial arts
trace their origins. Bohidharama had included his knowledge of vital
points which also has passed from system to system. Today, there
are numerous arts that are entirely based upon striking or touching
over 370 points in the body.Much of the martial arts world has contributed
to the knowledge of the human anatomy. For the last 1000-1500 years
there is documentation of the use of acupressure and acupuncture,
the structuring of techniques into dance-like forms passed down
where illiteracy was dominant and even visualization to increase
skill.
Using
20th Century applied science to 2000 year old martial arts is the
key to PPCT research. Dr. Kenneth Stamper of Belleville , IL, a
Dr. of Chiropractic medicine, conducted research that produced some
interesting results:
He conceptualized the use of large sensory or motor nerve tissue
to initiate pain. · The human nervous system carries impulses
to the brain regarding the environment and sensations. ·
A hypothesis that motor neuron impulses could be interrupted causing
a temporary muscle impairment or in generic terms, a Charlie horse.
· Continued to find and develop touch pressure points in
the head and neck.

Roaring Fork Karate Institute
The Roaring Fork KI was founded in the 1970’s to insure integrity and affordable quality martial arts instruction in a place where high quality usually meant too expensive. Club Director Chet Zajac brought KI from Michigan to the RF Valley in 1977. He is a 5th Degree Black Belt and KI Certified Master Instructor with 40 years in the martial arts.
